About this Role
The Academy Librarian and Technology Teacher instructs and evaluates Kindergarten through Grade 12 students in Technology and Kindergarten through Grade 5 in Library Science, while providing proper communication with parents and school administration. The Librarian is responsible for managing, developing and training library assistants, teacher aides, student librarians and volunteers.
The Librarian is also responsible for planning and managing the library budget, developing and managing the collection in consultation with staff and students. They will arrange displays and organize promotional events to encourage people to use the library.
What You Will Contribute
• Instruct students (K – 5) in the area of Library Science, focusing of effective research skills and library use
• Instruct students (K – 12) in the area of Technology, using the Mercy Ships Academy Technology Curriculum
• Adapt instructional techniques to the age and skill levels of students
• Troubleshoot all audio-visual (A/V) and technology equipment, in collaboration with IS Support Team
• Know and use the Dewey Decimal System
• Catalogue, process, inventory, order and stock new books, equipment, and other library supplies, as needed
• Screen, select, order, organize and circulate all types of instructional material(s) and equipment
• Plan, develop and encourage selection and purchase of age/interest appropriate literary and media materials in collaboration with students and staff
• Evaluate continuously the media program and plan for future growth and development with the building administration and teachers
• Process check-ins and checkouts of books, periodicals, reference materials and audio-visual (A/V) equipment to staff and students before, during and after school
• Coordinate and set up special events and book fairs in the library
• Work with students in groups or as individuals in the development of media and computer skills through help with reference work, selection of books and online reference searches
• Maintain current records, tracking over-due and lost books, creating accounts for patrons and managing student library cards
• Teach Skills which include: working with PowerPoint, Word etc.; Safe use of the Internet; Writing and publishing blogposts; typing skills/games; basic digital drawing/photo editing

• Successful completion of Mercy Ships Onboarding program will be required
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a focus on Library Sciences or Technology is required plus a minimum of 2 years working in a related field
• A current teaching certificate is preferred
• A minimum of 2 years classroom experience teaching is preferred
• Successfully complete the Child Safety Screening Process, which includes a Background Check, required
